The 2010 event schedule for Kokanee Crankworx will be as follows:

August 13: Giant Slalom presented by Giant Bicycle Company

The Slopestyle and Boneyard’s all-new course design is now finalized leaving Crankworx course designer and pro rider John Cowan and his crew, waiting in anticipation for the snow to melt to start construction in early-May.

The crown-jewel of Kokanee Crankworx, the Monster Energy Slopestyle, is now a top level “diamond” rated event in the newly formed Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour, ensuring Crankworx will continue to attract some of the world’s best talent.

In true Kokanee Crankworx form, the action doesn’t stop on the mountain. A retooled nine-day program featuring downhill, x-country, mountain bike Demo Zone, a village-wide expo and non-stop after-hours festivities will keep the energy high on and off the mountain. The Saint Deep Summer Photo Challenge will return on August 12, 2010 with the rest of the entertainment lineup announced soon.

And for those who can not take part in the exciting action in Whistler, Crankworx will be offering expanded webcast coverage with live streaming of all 2010 events held in the bike park on-line at www.crankworx.com – along with daily video reports and on-demand segments. With over one million views of online web action during the 2009 event, the planned 2010 coverage will be sure to keep even more of the mountain bike world in touch with Whistler’s biggest annual event!

Shortly before the action hits Whistler, Crankworx Colorado will be back for the fourth year in Winter Park, Colorado (July 29-August 1). Quickly gaining stature as one of the best mountain bike events in the US, Crankworx Colorado will feature several new trails and features built in the Trestle Mountain Bike Park.

Whistler Winter 2010-11 Second Snowiest Ever!

Posted by whistlerrealtors on April 12, 2010 | No Comments

With another 20cm (eight inches) of snow falling on Whistler in the past few days, the resort’s snowfall tally since it opened for the season last autumn has passed 1,430 centimetres or 47 feet, surpassing the 2006/07 record of 1,416 centimetres or 46 feet, making this season officially the second snowiest on record!

“This is great news for our spring season as we head into the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival kicking off on April 16,” says Stuart Rempel, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Whistler Blackcomb. “With a snow base of close to four metres (over 12 feet), the skiing and riding will be incredible right through to the end of our spring season which extends to May 24. This snow has our terrain parks in top shape, including a new 22-foot halfpipe on Blackcomb, which is being built for the Festival and will remain open to the public afterwards”.

In the post-Olympic period, almost 100 per cent of Whistler Blackcomb’s terrain remains open, including the Olympic Men’s and Women’s alpine skiing courses.

Other resorts in Western Canada that stay open in to May have also reported up to a foot (30cm) of fresh snow in recent days including Lake Louise and Sunshine in Alberta.

The Whistler Olympics and its Effect on the Whistler Real Esate Market

Posted by whistlerrealtors on April 9, 2010 | No Comments

A message from Lance…

I remember the day we all gathered in the Village square to listen to the announcement that Vancouver/Whistler won the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. There were thousands of people in the square and that day will always be etched in my memory as I thought that I would never see the Village be this vibrant and exciting ever again. Well, I was wrong! 2010 came faster than we had all imagined and the Village was as vibrant as it was that announcement day and it was like that every night of the Olympics. It was really a feeling that is very difficult to describe because it involved so many things.

None of us knew what to expect and the weeks preceding the Games were unsettling to us all to say the least. There were virtually no people here and the shops were empty. We were all asking ourselves if this was going to be a bust or what?? The eve of the Olympics brought much anticipation as we prepared to get up at 4:30 am to get to the busses that would take us to our first event in the morning. We drove into town and still the streets were empty and there were very few people around. We made it to the ski jumping in the Callahan and had a fantastic time and agreed that we’d take a walk through the Village on our return. We got off the bus and walked into the Village and it was like they air-dropped 100,000 people smack dab into the middle of the Village. It was unbelievable to say the least!!

Every day we met new people from various parts of the world and listened to their stories and in every case we heard nothing but praise for our little Village of Whistler. People were having so much fun and enjoying everything that Whistler has to offer that so many of us take for granted because we see it every day. They loved how the Village was laid out, they loved the amenities we have, they loved the shops and most of all they loved the skiing. Many we spoke to said they’ll be back here for the summer because they now realize that Whistler is a year round community and not just a ski resort. Summer activities include golfing, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, horse back riding, sailing and so much more.

Most of the people we spoke to were also surprised at how reasonable our real estate prices were compared to where they come from. Our resort is still a great buy when you compare our pricing to other major ski resorts in the U.S.A. and Europe. The economy has forced our prices to remain very soft here for a few years and in this past year we have also seen pricing come down to reflect the state of the economy. Serious sellers have made an impact on pricing and there have been many good opportunities come available.

If you would just like to chat about the Whistler market or any Whistler property, please give me a call as it would be my pleasure to hear from you and share what Whistler might have to offer you and your family.

Why Wait to Buy Real Estate in Whistler?

Posted by whistlerrealtors on April 8, 2010 | No Comments

No matter what newspaper you read or television news report you watch the news stories that carry the headlines are the ones about the global financial crisis. We are inundated with all sorts of negativity related to scandals in the banking sector, to the possibility of the stock market crashing, along with the major car manufacturers asking for a bail out. Is there any reason any of us should feel secure right now? I’d like to think that with every negative there is a positive and all we have to do is look around at what opportunities there are that might make our future a little bit more secure.

Whether it’s the stock market or the real estate market, the ultimate goal is to “buy low and sell high”. The problem is that most of the time we are all afraid that we are going to be paying too much. The market always seems to be on its’ way up or is at all time record highs when we want to buy. We all want to walk away knowing that we received excellent value for the money we have paid. Even if it turns out you could have got it for a “little bit” less, you can still feel great knowing that I bought at the right time in the cycle and then wait for things to turn around.

The reality is that we are all faced with uncertainty about what might happen in the real estate market in the next year or so but isn’t that the right time to be looking for deals? In all of the up and down markets that I’ve experienced, the clients that end up making the most money in their investments are the ones that are in a position to buy in a market exactly like the one we are experiencing right now!! There are those who are afraid to buy right now because they believe that things are going to get worse in the financial markets and more people will feel the pinch and prices will come down even more. That may be the case across the board but right now there are sellers’ out there who are willing to sell now at very reduced prices, even for today’s market.

IF A SELLER WANTS OUT OF THE MARKET…..

BE READY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY.

Even in a down market you may find that prices across the board still appear to be too high but there are sellers who have gone beyond today’s pricing and they are offering serious discounts to those investors who are prepared to act now. If you are working with a good agent serious sellers will be easy for them to spot in these markets.

THIS MARKET REPRESENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE PRIME WHISTLER REAL ESTATE IN THE BEST BUILDINGS AT BARGAIN PRICES.

If you are interested in the Whistler real estate market and want to make a purchase knowing that you are going to receive exceptional value, give me a call to discuss your needs and I’ll be happy to work with you to get the lowest possible price so that you can walk away feeling great about your purchase in today’s market. Interest rates are very favorable, there is plenty of inventory and there are some sellers out there who are more motivated than others.

I’ll help you BUY LOW so that when the time comes you are able to SELL HIGH.

Want a Hands Off Investment in Whistler? Delta Whislter Village Suites offers several Phase 2 units for sale.

Posted by whistlerrealtors on April 7, 2010 | No Comments

Honestly, there aren’t many investments in Whistler that are producing a good positive cash flow but I can direct you to the Delta Whistler Village Suites if this is what you are looking for. This is one of the few buildings in Whistler that is showing a decent bottom line and they are heading in the right direction. You can buy a small studio in this hotel for $138,000 or a bit less and that put almost $6,700.00 in the owner pocket in 2008 after all expenses and taxes. Income dropped a bit in 2009 due to the Olympic Aversion Phenomenon that all host venues experience but it wasn’t much and there’s no doubt that it will get back up there. One-bedroom suites are available for under $280,000.00 and these units were netting the owners about $10,000.00. This is a great hotel property with good management and in my opinion is the best level entry investment that Whistler has to offer.

Whistler Condo for Sale – Exceptional Value!

Posted by whistlerrealtors on April 6, 2010 | No Comments

If you’ve been looking in Whistler for a property that stands out when you view it then I really want to bring this 3 bedroom townhome in the Heights to your attention. The owners are simply meticulous and this property shows like new, so it’s a real pleasure to see. The Heights is in the Taluswood area and is a true ski-in / ski-out property. This home has 1675 square feet, radiant heat, 3 decks, hot tub, huge double garage and comes fully furnished. The most recent sale in the complex had the same floor plan but was much more of a rental and it sold for $1,350,000.00. This property is offered at $1,359,000.00 and has about $40,000.00 worth of added value. The GST is also paid on this property which is worth 5% of the purchase price (soon to be 12%). If you’ve been looking in this price range and have not seen this property, please make arrangements to view it because you will be very pleasantly surprised.
